Festival of Music and Light | Sydney, Australia

Vivid Sydney, a festival of light art, music, and ideas, is going on now in Sydney through June 9, 2014, whose founder is a well-known musician Lou Reed, and helped his wife Laurie Anderson.  So it was at first, but now the festival has an impressive team of organizers. It is also noteworthy that the festival has outgrown itself and today is considered a significant event not only for the metropolis. In Sydney attracts thousands of tourists and music fans to take an active part in many related events. We will not focus on the musical part of the festival and offer you some of the most striking images of the light part of the event.

01. Guy Fawkes Night (Bonfire Night) - England

Guy Fawkes Night (Bonfire Night) - England: "Remember, remember the fifth of November - gunpowder, treason and plot" goes the nursery rhyme, chanted in the run-up to Guy Fawkes Night. It goes back to 1605 when Guy Fawkes, one of the members of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives in the House of Lords, London. With the plot to blow up the House of Lords - and kill King James I - foiled, Londoners lit bonfires around the city in celebration. The bonfire tradition continues to this day, and usually there's an effigy of Guy Fawkes placed at the center of it. One of the biggest celebrations is in the town of Lewes in Sussex where, in recent years, effigies of various current figures, including those from the U.K. banking world, have been burned. Cascamorras — Festival Celebrated in Spain

According to legend, the origin of “La Fiesta del Cascamorras” can be traced back to 1490, when Don Luis de Acuña Herrera decided to built the Church of Mercy in the town of Baza, where a Moazarabic mosque had previously been erected. While chiseling a block of plaster, Juan Pedernal, a worker from the nearby town of Guadix, heard a soft, soothing voice coming from inside a cavern, which said “Have mercy!”.
